Philosophy:
It is the goal of Montessori Melodies School & Daycare Inc. to provide your child with the opportunity to experience high quality, educational care. We seek to provide a positive learning experience as we combine the best of both worlds, Montessori and Early Childhood Education techniques. Our program is based on the theory that each child is an individual. Children develop to their optimum if their uniqueness is respected. We meet each child where they are and respect their individuality. Children who feel good about themselves are happy children. To help create self-acceptance in a child, the child's feelings, whatever they may be, are recognized and accepted without blaming. We acknowledge that they have the right to feel as they do.
Learning takes place spontaneously, through exposure to a variety of media. As children experiences these things, they adapt to them in a way relevant to their own developmental stage.
No child is forced into new experiences. Rather, they are introduced to things gradually and always have the opportunity to decline participation. Through the encouragement of both teachers and peers, the child is always in situations where they can learn as far as their curiosity takes them.
At Montessori Melodies your child will have the opportunity to gain practice in cognitive, language, fine motor, large motor, social, emotional and self help skills through developmentally appropriate practice techniques. These skills will help your child build his/her self-esteem and prepare him/her for future life skills. Each child is treated with respect and love and is offered a positive learning environment.

Our Christian education component enriches each child's life with wonderful Bible stories, songs and Bible verse memorization.  Snack and meal times are experiences that help your child learn to be thankful for what God has given them.  We believe that a Christian environment enables your child to grow morally, intellectually and physically.

If we, as teachers, can facilitate creativeness, curiosity, communication, independence, reasoning and daily positive experiences in a healthy, safe and productive, yet least restricting environment, then we are fostering the ability in which to learn. In giving the child the opportunity for accomplishment and to develop a positive self-concept about themselves and their world, they can feel accomplishment.
We believe that Montessori Melodies is an extension of the parent's care and goals for their child. A positive relationship between parents, staff and children will achieve the best results in each child's development. We are dedicated in helping each child reach his / her full potential. Your child's comforts and needs are always a priority. Your questions, comments, and input are important to ensure team work and to achieve the very best experiences for your child.

Program:

The daily program includes a free play time with a choice of table toys (puzzles, small blocks, etc.); floor toys (large blocks, farm centres, etc.); creative activities (gluing, painting, sewing, etc.); special centres (housekeeping, water table, etc.); and special creative activities. There is also a circle time which might include a story, music, games, finger plays, discussion of our theme, number or letter of the week, etc. Weather permitting, there are outdoor times each day in the playground or on walks. The Montessori enriched curriculum focuses on practical life exercises (care of self, care of the environment, pouring, spooning, cleaning, food preparation, etc.); language (covering oral and written language, phonics, letter recognition, pre-reading and pre-writing, parts of speech, grammar and composition: storytelling is very important at this age); mathematics (qualitative and quantitative concepts, numeral recognition, decimal system, mathematical operations and fractions); cultural subjects (introducing children to continents, elements of nature, current events and history, living and non-living things, plants and animals, parts of living things, life cycle, experiments and time measurement, health issues such as nutrition, food groups and exercise) and art and music (color theory, exposure to various media, design, appreciation, singing, instrument recognition, notation and control of movement).
What makes our program so special? We think it's the uniqueness of having both trained Montessori staff and Early Childhood Educators working together to bring your child a learning experience that can't be beat!  In addition to our gym program we also offer a music program similar to ones offered by Kindermusik, free of charge to all children enrolled. This program features singing, vocal development, expressive and creative movement, focused listening, exploring musical instruments, creativity, exploring musical concepts and the reinforcement of traditional preschool concepts such as number, shapes and colors. What a great gift to give your child!
